How do you feel about being a finalist in the 2016 Fashion Design Competition?: I cannot believe I have been selected as a finalist! I am really happy and excited to be part of this competition.
It is a great challenge and an excellent opportunity for me and I am looking forward to seeing the designs come to life on the fashion show.
What does ‘style’ mean to you?: Everyone has different interpretation of ‘style’. However, for me style is not a piece of clothing, it’s not something you can buy or wear. Style lives within a person, it’s an expression of who you are as an individual person. It represents our feelings, beliefs and our attitude towards the world. Style is about being ourselves and not trying to fit in with everybody else.
Who is your style icon?: There are a lot of people who inspire me and whom I look up to. Iris Apfel is one of them. Her unique, distinctive style and her quirky fashion choices never fail to amaze me. She’s not afraid to think outside the box and be different. Her approach to fashion and self expression encourages me to step out of my comfort zone and think differently.
Please summarise the concept behind your design in one sentence: The concept behind the Anika dress is to represent how contrasting features like the mysterious, sexy black mesh and the traditional, colourful arabesque pattern can balance out and complement each other and create a unique look.
