Maryam Daoudi: Simplicity & Structure
Name: Maryam Daoudi
Design Title: Simplicity & Structure
How do you feel about being a finalist in the 2016 Fashion Design Competition?: I am really excited to have been chosen as a 2016 finalist and just to be able to have my design on a catwalk feels like an achievement in itself. It has motivated me to work hard and be ambitious. I’m incredibly grateful to have been given this amazing opportunity!
What does ‘style’ mean to you?: Style is what you feel comfortable in, something that we define by ourselves. It is a choice, rather than an obligation so we get to decide what we do and don’t include as part of our own personal style. Whether that means following a particular fashion trend, or going in a completely different direction.
Who is your style icon?: My style icon is definitely Cara Delevingne. She changed the face of beauty by making thick eyebrows a trend. Her outfits are always dramatic, bold, and lively (almost like a fantastical character). But despite their statement there is still a sense of elegance and structure to her looks. I love the air of honesty in the way she presents herself in a humorous and light-hearted manner.
Please summarise the concept behind your design in one sentence: My design is a contrast between simple structures and playful colours.
