CBEEBIES SERVES UP COOKING TIPS TO THE CHILDREN OF HAVERING -

The children of Havering can pick up cooking tips from new CBeebies star Katy Ashworth from I Can Cook on Saturday 31st October and Sunday 1ST November when she visits The Liberty Shopping Centre, Romford between 11am- 5pm for a two-day extravaganza of stirring, grating, whisking and tasting!

Part of the BBC's Dig In campaign, which is inspiring the nation to grow, cook and eat its own healthy grub, the event will see Katy doing an all singing and dancing performance of delicious recipes from the CBeebies' show. There will also be a chance for little chefs to create a Dig In recipe showing how the fruit and vegetables they've grown can end up as a tasty meal on their plate.

Dig In is running workshops all day long to introduce children to the five Dig In vegetables - butternut squash, cherry tomatoes, beetroot, red lettuce and carrots. And for Mums and Dads the Dig In team will be giving away a free Nigel Slater recipe booklet. The Dig In van will be there too, offering tips and ideas for growing your own vegetables.

Brand new on CBeebies this October, I Can Cook is on a mission to get the nation's under-sixes in the kitchen and cooking up a storm. Serving up a selection of simple recipes, top cookery tips and the chance to get very messy, it teaches children to discover the magic of the full cycle of food as they learn to connect what's on their plate everyday with the world around them.

"Cooking is a simple pleasure in life that brings joy in so many different ways so if you can learn it at a young age then even better!" says Katy Ashworth. "We're going to have lots of hands on, messy fun and I can't wait for the children of Brighton to put on their pinnies and get involved!"

I Can Cook is currently on CBeebies weekdays at 9.30-9.45am and 1.00-1.15pm. Each day musician, actress and all-round entertainer Katy Ashworth (23) welcomes more children into her I Can Cook kitchen to create a recipe of the day. Together they pop peppers, sprinkle seasoning, mix muffins and chop carrots as they explore where ingredients come from and how foods are made as well as learning some simple kitchen and cookery skills.
