CHRISTMAS CHOIR WIN XMAS FACTOR AT THE LIBERTY SHOPPING CENTRE

The Liberty Shopping Centres search for 2009 Xmas Factor Choir competition winners reached a nail biting climax as finalists from Upminster Junior School, Mead Primary School, Hylands Primary School, Gidea Park Primary School and Crowlands Primary School competed in live heats in front of an audience of over 1,000 people to scoop the top prize of £1,000 for their school.

After battling through the preliminary round, Hylands Primary School choir gave a winning performance of Silent Night' and went on to secure the winners title with their Medley from Christmas film ‘Polar Express'.

The young singers, led by Music teachers Miss Laura Mason & Miss Lois Richards, received unanimous praise from the judges. The choir have only been singing together since the beginning of September when the children from Edwin Lambert and Manor came together to form Hylands Primary School. Within twelve weeks they have worked hard to achieve a high standard performance that included solo vocals, two part harmonies, instrumental accompaniment and percussion, as well as dance actions.

On hearing her school had been crowned the winning choir, Miss Mason said: "We were absolutely thrilled when the judges announced we had won. I am so proud of the children. I would like to thank the team at The Liberty for this wonderful experience and their generosity, we have enjoyed every moment".

Mead Primary School received an honorary mention. They performed a rendition of This Christmas as well as Gaudete which they sang in Latin.

David Collins, General Manager at The Liberty, commented "The Liberty are proud to hold the annual carol singing competition that has proven to be very popular amongst the primary schools across the borough, the standard of singing amongst our finalists was exceptional and all of the competing schools should be extremely proud."
