TALKING SHOP...AS THE LIBERTY SUPPORTS MACMILLAN CANCER TRUST

The Liberty is a great location for shopping, entertainment and a place for people to meet up, it also supports two local charities each year. This year The Liberty has selected Essex Macmillan Cancer Support and St Francis Hospice as their charities for 2010.

This week will see the launch and presence of Essex Macmillan Cancer Support at the shopping centre. Sometimes, when you're out shopping, some of the best finds are those unexpected discoveries you never intended to invest in¬ but you're very glad when you did.

That's the theory behind LASER's mobile information service taking on the previously unchartered territory of inside shopping centres. The portable ‘info-zone', who answers to the name of Daisy, has been offering advice and support to shoppers all over London since she was launched in November last year and the take up has been great.

Martina McGill, one of Daisy's on site Cancer Information Specialists, commented "Convenience is the key factor. Daisy reaches people who wouldn't or couldn't otherwise access this kind of information and support service. Whether they're people who don't have access to the internet or people who don't know Macmillan's out there, Daisy is a great way to bring information direct to those who might have not sourced it for themselves."

One of the key successes of this community based resource is its ability to reach men. With men folk traditionally being less likely to track down information and support, this mobile service actually bucks the trend.

David Collins, General Manager of The Liberty Shopping Centre commented "The Liberty prides itself on being able to provide an environment for organisations to offer informative advice to shoppers within our community. The Essex Macmillan Cancer information zone is an excellent method.

Daisy will be located in the main square of The Liberty Shopping centre throughout the week from Monday 10th - Friday 14th May.
