FASHION DESIGNERS CREATIONS HIT THE CATWALK AT THE LIBERTY

Vanessa Ofori-Boafa, age 17 from Leyton Sixth form college has beaten young designers across Essex and East London to take her place as The Liberty Fashion Designer of the year 2010.

Vanessa responded to the competition brief to design an innovative key garment for Spring/ Summer 2011. 170 schools, colleges and universities were invited to take part.

Vanessa’s parents Joyce and Eddie commented “We are really proud of Vanessa, she has worked so hard and her desire is to be a fashion designer, this award is a great stepping stone for her recognition within the industry.

Humble Vanessa commented “I was shocked when I won, I didn’t expect to win as I was competing against 21 other finalist, but it feels great and I am pleased and looking forward to my prize of work experience with the design team at Miss Selfridge head office”.

Judges from Miss Selfridge Head office, Sarah Taunton and area manager, Topaz O’Leary, commented “Vanessa’s design really stood out, she used dark floral print and still managed to make her design look vibrant. The dress was well made, young, fun and she managed to be unique whilst staying on trend. All of the finalists displayed a sense of talent, drive, dedication and passion and have a lot to contribute to the fashion industry”.

Vanessa’s crown as The Liberty fashion designer of the year does not stop there. She has also secured a place at the prestigious London College of Fashion.

Congratulation’s also goes to Amy Barrier from Braintree sixth form who gained 2^nd place and Emma Hernaman from Havering College who gained third place at the finals.
