Cancer Research Fun Day at The Liberty
On Sunday 1st September, The Liberty Shopping Centre hosted a family fun day to raise money for the centre’s charity of the year, Cancer Research UK. The centre raised £400 from the generous donations of shoppers.
The event was organised to raise vital funds for Cancer Research in a fun and interactive way. Cancer Research UK provided essential information about the key aims of the charity at their pop-up information station.
Jessica Allchin, Local Fundraising Manger for Cancer Research UK in south Essex said of the event: “We are really grateful to The Liberty Centre for organising this family fun day in aid of Cancer Research UK. 33,800 people in Greater London are diagnosed with cancer each year, so this event was a great opportunity for us to raise awareness of the work Cancer Research UK is doing to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.”
“The generous donations from shoppers on the day will help us eradicate the fear of cancer for future generations – we are the only charity fighting over 200 types of cancer and we receive no government funding for our life-saving research.”
The fundraising event included a range of interactive family entertainment, such as a bouncy castle and table tennis. Participants were asked to make a small donation to enjoy the activities available during the day within the centre. Free cupcake and lollipops were also given out to shoppers.
In addition, shoppers have been given the chance to guess the name of the giant bear, available at the customer service desk. Participants are invited to choose from a selection of 50 names after donating £1 to Cancer Research UK, the person who guesses the name correctly will win the bear.
Jonathan Poole, Centre Manager at The Liberty, commented: “Our family fun day was a wonderful opportunity to raise awareness for Cancer Research UK, the shopping centre’s charity of the year.”
“We hope to continue hosting these vital fundraising events which get the entire family involved. Thank you to everyone who donated.”
