Sliding to Victory with £500 Prize for Charity

The Liberty Shopping Centre hosted their annual Wild Slide Competition between Monday 26th – Friday 30th August. The fastest slide was achieved by 14 years old, Elischama Monange-Godwin from Upminster, who slid to victory in just 5.74 seconds.

Visitors to the centre were encouraged to embrace their competitive side, all in aid of winning £500 for fastest slider’s charity of choice. A unique, impact-free sport, the Wild Slyde returned to the shopping centre to round off the Summer of Fun event for children and adults alike to enjoy.

The Wild Slyde is a specially designed resistance slide designed by Weininger Irwin, the UK’s first ‘Gladiator’. During the last week of the summer holidays, shoppers were invited to take part in the 13-metre race to the finish line. Families, friends, colleagues and charity representatives battled it out to win the gift donation in a fun activity, designed to be accessible for all ages and capabilities.

Elischama said of his win “I was confident I could get a good time, and I’m really happy I got the fastest time overall. I’m not too sure which charity I’m going to pick yet. It’s an important decision and I want to take some time to choose the right one.”

The Wild Slyde Charity Competition was a high-energy conclusion to the many events hosted by The Liberty during their ‘Summer of Fun’. Throughout the summer holidays the shopping centre has been a hub of activity. Each week, children were invited to take part in a variety of exciting workshops, including the chance to take over the shops by becoming Centre Manager for the day along with other roles in fashion, food and beauty. Parents were also encouraged to get involved with the chance to win free school uniform for the year with Marks and Spencer.

Jonathan Poole, Centre Manager at The Liberty, commented: “The Wild Slyde Charity event has been a fantastic success, with families and colleagues alike racing to win money for a good cause.

“We hope everyone who participated had a memorable experience in the hopes of winning money for charity. Well done Elischama for getting the fastest time!”
